Family Saturday

Blue Star Contemporary Art Center is proud to announce its newest education program: Blue Star Family Saturdays.

What are Family Saturdays?: Family Saturdays are a special time for kids and their families to enjoy a gallery experience that's just for them!  On four Saturdays throughout the year, Blue Star will open its doors three hours early just for families interested in experiencing contemporary art firsthand. Each family Saturday will feature short, family-geared guided tours, Family Activity Guides, and a special art activity led by a local or exhibiting artist.  Family Saturdays will be held quarterly, in correspondence with Blue Star's rotating exhibition schedule.

The inaugural Family Saturday will be held on Saturday, July 23rd from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm, and will feature an activity with Austin-based sculptor Brooke Gassiot, whose work is currently on exhibit in Gallery 4 as part of Texas Uprising: Selected Works from the Texas Sculpture Group Part II. Short guided tours will introduce participants to the world of contemporary art through exploration of Blue Star's current exhibitions. In addition, every participant will receive a Family Activity Guide, the perfect resource for those who want to take a more in-depth look at the art or who prefer to go through the gallery at their own pace. There will also be a special area where younger children and their parents can color and create together. Family Saturday guided tours and art activities will run several times throughout the morning so that families may choose the duration of time they wish to spend at the gallery.

This event is free, but space is limited. Families are encouraged to reserve their spots by Friday, July 15, and can do so by contacting Emily R. Barker, Membership & Community Outreach Coordinator, at 210.227.6960 or by email at emily@bluestarart.org.

Priority registration is available for Blue Star Family and Contemporary Family Members. Blue Star Family Membership is available for $60 and funds Blue Star's exhibition and education programs like Family Saturdays! For more information on membership, visit www.bluestarart.org/support.

Family Saturday is presented as part of Blue Star's MOSAIC Education Program. The variety of innovative MOSAIC programs stir the imagination and inspire people of all ages while connecting Blue Star to the San Antonio community in fun, original ways.
