Ă?ndvegissĂșlur, Poem of Light : World Premiere
In February 2010 Bill FitzGibbons, internationally exhibited sculptor and Executive Director of Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, was invited by the Mayor of Reykjavík to premiere a site specific light sculpture installation titled Öndvegissúlur, Poem of Light in Reykjavík, Iceland. Öndvegissúlur, Poem of Light lit up the colonnade of the Reykjavík City Hall for the opening ceremonies of Museum Night, creating a dramatic light sculpture that magically transformed the city hall into a spectacular spectrum of moving color. Documentary filmmaker Frank Cantor captured this captivating installation and will premiere his film, also called Öndvegissúlur, Poem of Light, at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center on March 11th, 2011 at 7:00 p.m.
In celebration of the event Bill FitzGibbons, Frank Cantor, San Antonio City leaders, and visiting dignitaries from Reykjavík, Iceland, will be in attendance. Also at the event, the next participating artist in the Blue Star San Antonio/Icelandic Artist Exchange Initiative, part of the Icelandic Cultural Exchange (ICE), will be announced with a short presentation of plans for the 2012 installation in Reykjavik.
