Catherine Anspon Book Signing and Infinito Botanica
On the evening of Thursday, Janurary 6, Paper City's Catherine D. Anspon will be signing her new book entitled Texas Artists Today at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center.
This new book by Anspon is a "lively, lavishly illustrated volume [that] offers a fresh take on the mid-career players (plus a few up-and-comers) upon the rich canvas of Texas' art scene". Published by Marquand Books in a collectible, limited edition of 3,000 hand-numbered copies, this memorable survey is presented in an over-sized format, producing an art tome as big as Texas. Texas Artists Today features a preface by James Surls and a foreward by Lester Marks, with collages designed by Tatiana Massey.
The first edition of this book is almost sold out, but copies will be available for purchase at the book signing for $95.
In conjunction with the book signing, one of the featured artists, San Antonio's Franco Mondini-Ruiz, will recreate his accalaimed "Infinito Botanica" installation from the 2000 Whitney Biennial. "Infinito Botanica" references the Mexican botanica and is a hybrid installation/store.
Ed Saavedra will open his new exhibiton Requiem for an English Major that evening in Gallery 4.
