Blue Star will have two openings that evening: Amalgamations 25: 28 Artists for 25 Great Years, curated by Wayne Gilbert, in the Main and Middle Galleries and the Project Space, and A Girl in the Middle, featuring Soomin Jung, in Gallery 4.
Amalgamations 25: 28 Artists for 25 Great Years is curated by Houston-based artist, curator and critic Wayne Gilbert. Gilbert has shown work across Texas and across the world, having been featured in shows from China to Cuba. This show features Holly Hein & Bryson Brooks, Casey Arguellas, Kimberly Aubuchon, Jerry Cabrera, Judith Cottrell, Joey Fauerso, Aaron Forland, Tommy Gregory, Mignon Harkrader, Megan Harrison, Mira Hnatyshyn-Hudson, Ben Judson, Mat Kubo, Bora Lee, Enrique Martinez, Clay McClure, Richard Mogas, Sasha Nochovka, Kyle Olson, Cruz Ortiz, Justin Parr, Katie Pell, Kristy Perez, Ed Saavedra, James Smolleck, Sarah Sudhoff and Jeremiah Teutsch.
Gilbert had this to say about the show: "After a review of the talented group of artists presented, I selected an exhibition that reflects an overview of the range and variety of many different forms of art making in the current global art atmosphere. I found the city to be rich with talent and a delight in which to select an exhibition to reflect its artistic strength. Though, I must say it was difficult to select out of all of the work presented the 28 participating artists in this show. I selected a group that I hope will show the diverse, rich, talent of the San Antonio art community".
Amalgamations 25: 28 Artists for 25 Great Years will show at Blue Star Contemporary Art Center beginning on March 4th and close on Saturday, May 15th. A Girl in the Middle will show beginning on March 4th and close on Saturday, March 28th.
Along with the openings that evening, Blue Star will host a kickoff party to mark the official start of Contemporary Art Month for the city of San Antonio. Beginning with a balloon-release featuring city leaders, the evening will include a short performance by the San Antonio Symphony of selections from the repertoire of Philip Glass, food and drinks from some local favorites, and music by DJ John Mata. Blue Star will extend its hours until 10 pm on the 4th to accommodate the party
Special thanks to Ann Griffith Ash and Alfonso Tomita for their generous support of the opening event.
This is a Contemporary Art Month event.
