Blue Star Contemporary Art Museums MOSAIC program actively engages area youth in the creation and business of artfrom art-making techniques to networking with patrons and accepting commissions. Student-artists study multiple media, including printmaking, drawing, painting, and ceramics. Students design and create public art projects, organize exhibitions of their work, prepare portfolios for gallery proposals and college applications, and volunteer at community events leading hands-on activities.

Renowned muralist and Blue Stars Artist-in-Residence Alex Rubio mentors students five days a week, after school and during summers, for an intensive, year-round arts education. Students participate in Blue Stars programs, and also attend workshops, lectures, and exhibitions at local cultural institutions and artist studios to gain further exposure to the citys artistic landscape. Student exhibitions and public art projects, which include a large hand-made mosaic mural at H-E-Bs East Side location and the River Walks Compass Rose designating the citys geographic center, become part of San Antonio and its vibrant and rich visual culture.

MOSAICs students often come from high schools in lower-income districts with lower-than-average graduation rates. 100% of MOSAICs students have graduated high school and many go on to college and careers in the arts, sharing in San Antonio's cultural economy and continuing Blue Stars mission to inspire the creative genius in us all by nurturing artists in a contemporary art museum.
